The primary geographic areas of funding are the northeastern to southeastern United States. The Trust does not fund non-United States-based charitable organizations nor the work of United States based organizations abroad. The FJ Brotherton Charitable Trust does NOT approve grant requests to organizations lacking tax exempt status under I.R.C. Section 501(c)(3).
The Trust does NOT normally approve grant requests falling into the following categories: legal aid programs, loans, moving expenses, public opinion polls, surveys and research studies, public policy and/or advocacy groups, deficit financing, and grants to individuals.
Letters of interest are accepted twice each year between March 1 and May 31 and September 1 and November 30. If invited to submit a full application, it will be due one month after the close of LOI deadline, June 30 and December 31, respectively. Funds will be distributed approximately 10 to 12 weeks after applications are submitted.
